Reuters news agency has reported that US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has delivered a written proposal to Hamas outlining how it should disarm, according to two sources.
According to the sources, it provides one clear choice: full decommissioning by Hamas and every armed group, without any room for negotiation. Many believe the Board of Peace would be stillborn at launch, but it has limped on despite criticism.
The proposal, first reported by NPR, was presented to Hamas during meetings held in Cairo over the past week, one source said.
The discussions included Nickolay Mladenov and Aryeh Lightstone, the two sources familiar with the matter added.
“It is now on the table. In this season of hope, may those responsible make the right choice for the Palestinian people,” Mladenov said on X in a post for the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
The right choice for many would depend from which perspective you are viewing the proposal.
