Fannie Masemola, South Africa’s national police commissioner, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with claims of contravening the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The allegations relate to the irregularly awarded multi-million-rand Medicare24 tender. It’s the same tender for which Vusimuzi Matlala and 12 police officers face corruption charges.
He faces four counts of contravening the Public Finance Management Act.
Speaking to the media after his appearance, Masemola said he was “undoubtedly innocent”.
The matter has been postponed to May, where Masemola will share the dock with Matlala, who is alleged to be one of the country’s most notorious criminals.
