Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said there will be “no popular normalisation” with Israel unless a just peace is achieved that ends the occupation of Palestinian territories and leads to an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking at the inauguration of Egypt’s State Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Sisi said there could be no lasting peace, stability or public acceptance without ending occupation, injustice and aggression, and restoring rights to Palestinians.
He said a just peace would allow people across the region to live in stability and prosperity.
Sisi also called for the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect in October 2025, to be protected, alongside a recent framework agreement between Iran and the US.
On Egypt’s new State Strategic Command, Sisi said the facility marks a major step in the country’s command, control and crisis-management capabilities.
He said the headquarters includes advanced technology, secure communications, intelligence analysis systems and an integrated structure linking Egypt’s political and military leadership.
Despite Sisi’s comments, Egypt, along with other neighbouring and regional powers, is widely seen by many Muslims around the world as complicit in Israel’s genocide in Gaza, including through restrictions at the Rafah crossing and the failure to militarily intervene to prevent further death and destruction.
