President Cyril Ramaphosa’s response to the water shortage crisis in his SONA address on Thursday is unlikely to placate Johannesburg resident Kerryn Mckay.

She was livid with anger when interviewed by ONN. The state was treating us with contempt, she said.

Promises to fix the water crisis were made the previous year.

After dry taps for up to four weeks, residents remain doubtful of promises despite trickles returning to some areas on Friday afternoon.

The president’s pledge of another task team to inquire into and find a solution to the water crisis won’t address Ms McKay’s immediate challenge of having no water to bath her children or flush toilets.


She was looking for a ‘silver bullet’ arising from the presidents address. Ramaphosa said he had none to offer:
