An al-Qaeda-linked armed group has accused Burkina Faso\u2019s president, Ibrahim Traor\u00e9, of waging war against Islam and called on Muslims to join its insurgency, escalating a growing battle over religious legitimacy in the Sahel nation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intervention by Jama\u2019at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) comes amid heightened tensions between Traor\u00e9\u2019s military-led government and sections of the country\u2019s Muslim community, raising fears that the group is seeking to exploit religious grievances to weaken the state and widen its support base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a video statement distributed through its usual communication channels JNIM accused Ibrahim Traor\u00e9, of waging war against Islam and urged Burkinab\u00e8 citizens to join its insurgency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
