{"id":5739,"date":"2026-06-24T13:11:48","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T11:11:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/1nationmedia.com\/?p=5739"},"modified":"2026-06-24T16:10:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T14:10:19","slug":"female-islamic-teacher-burnt-alive-in-brutal-mob-killing-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1nationmedia.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/24\/female-islamic-teacher-burnt-alive-in-brutal-mob-killing-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Female Islamic teacher burnt alive in brutal mob killing in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The horrific killing of Islamic school teacher Ummul Khairi Usman in the New Maraban Jos area of Kaduna State, Nigeria, has reignited national concerns over the dangers of mob justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What began as an ordinary journey to attend an Islamic lecture ended in a horrifying mob attack that claimed the life of a woman many residents described as peaceful, devout and devoted to her family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has left residents shocked, family members devastated and community leaders demanding justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Village Head of New Maraban Jos, Suleiman Isa, said he received a distress call from the victim\u2019s husband shortly after rumours began circulating that Ummul Khairi had been accused of attempting to kidnap children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Isa, he immediately rushed to the scene on a motorcycle in an effort to rescue her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I arrived, a large crowd had already gathered. I managed to get close to where she was being held and we contacted the police,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isa said police officers eventually arrived and escorted Ummul Khairi to a nearby police station for her safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe was alive and calm at the station. She even asked me to get her water. I was there with her Islamic teacher, who tried to explain to the crowd that she was innocent, but nobody wanted to listen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional leader said he later returned to the police station, only to discover that she was no longer inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I stepped outside, I found that she had been killed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visibly shaken by the incident, Isa warned against citizens taking the law into their own hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere have been cases of missing children in this area, and emotions are high whenever such allegations surface. But people must allow proper investigations to take place. What happened is a tragedy that should never occur again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Questions over police protection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most troubling aspects of the incident has emerged from the account of the victim\u2019s sister-in-law, Zainab Aliyu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said she was with Ummul Khairi inside the police station as officers attempted to contain the growing crowd outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Aliyu, stones were being thrown at the station while police officers responded with tear gas, before the situation allegedly took a dramatic turn when a senior police officer arrived and requested to see the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe held her hand and started leading her away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zainab claimed she repeatedly warned officers that the crowd outside could kill Ummul Khairi if she was taken out of the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen we got close to the gate, I told them the mob would kill her. Another officer pushed me aside and took her outside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moments later, the crowd reportedly descended on the victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI tried to pull her away, but a police officer dragged me back into the station and told me to leave because the crowd might kill me too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her account raises serious questions about how Ummul Khairi left police protection and ended up in the hands of an angry mob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Husband demands justice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Aliyu Mohammed, the victim\u2019s husband, the loss remains difficult to comprehend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking through tears, he described his wife as a religious teacher who had simply left home to pursue Islamic studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe told me she was going for a lecture and I asked her to return safely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While at work, Mohammed received a call informing him that his wife had allegedly been caught attempting to steal children. Concerned, he contacted friends and community leaders to intervene before he could reach the scene himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time he arrived, it was already too late. \u201cThey had burned her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The father now faces the daunting responsibility of raising their children without their mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat pains me most is the children. Whenever I look at them, I cry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled how their youngest child repeatedly asked about her mother after the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLast night, my four-year-old daughter kept asking why her mother had not come home.
