Smaller solidarity actions are also expected across the country on 15 May, with groups encouraged to record messages supporting both the flotilla and a proposed coal embargo campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to One Nation Media at a send-off event held in Lenasia on Freedom Day, delegates, whose identities are being withheld for security reasons, shared the personal motivations behind their decision to join both initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A delegate preparing to join the flotilla described the personal cost of participation, saying leaving his family behind was difficult but necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWatching that genocide being live-streamed, and sitting and doing nothing, I don\u2019t understand how that can even be human,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another delegate, who will join the land convoy, said he sees the suffering of Gaza\u2019s children reflected in South African children and feels a responsibility to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I look at children here in South Africa, I see the children of Gaza, and I can\u2019t ignore that,\u201d he told One Nation Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the mission moves forward, the focus now shifts from intention to impact, whether these efforts will translate into real change for Palestinians on the ground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 prepares to sail toward Gaza, alongside a parallel land convoy carrying aid and activists, South African solidarity groups are ramping up a coordinated national campaign in support of the mission.
