Ramadan prayer attack foiled

A possible attack on Muslim worshippers during Ramadan taraweeh prayers at the Victoria Park Masjid in Manchester, United Kingdom (UK), on Tuesday was foiled when a white male was intercepted as he entered wearing a high-visibility jacket and found carrying an axe, knife and hammer, the 5Pillars news website posted on X.
“We understand that the individual was stopped by security before any harm was done and armed police took him away,” the post stated.

Muslims were being advised to stay aware of their surroundings and those around them, to avoid walking alone and look out for one another.

“The mosque will have additional volunteers from tomorrow (Wednesday) for Taraweeh prayers but need everyone to arrive on time as the doors will be locked whilst people are praying,” the post stated.

The incident follows a number of attacks on mosques in the UK.

A 2022 report showing 42% of mosques experienced incidents over three years.
Recorded incidents included 25 attacks between July and October 2025. Following the July 2024 Southport stabbings, far-right rioters attacked mosques, including a petrol bombing attempt in the town of Newtownards, according to Wikipedia

According to Sky News, British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer has expressed concern after a “serious incident” at the mosque in Manchester.
Sir Keir posted on X: “I am concerned to hear of the incident at Manchester Central Mosque last night. I know this will be worrying for Muslim communities, especially during Ramadan, a time of peace and reflection. “My thanks go to the volunteers and emergency services for their quick response. “We have provided up to £40m funding for additional security at mosques, Muslim schools and community centres, and will continue to act to ensure communities are able to live without fear.”
